Hawaii is a melting pot of many different cultures, and with that comes a wide diversity of foods. A delicious type of food that is rare to find on the island however is Mexican food. Lucky for us, located in the Safeway shopping market off Kapahulu is a satisfyingly unique Mexican inspired cuisine restaurant called Caliente del Sol. With five different types of meats or veggies to pick from and unique sauces, one of the best being the delicious and slightly spicy Chile Verde, you can create enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas, burritos, salads, and nachos to your pleasing. There is even a selection of different tortillas to wrap all the goodness in. The salsa selection is big too included a sweet and zesty pineapple salsa adding a touch of Hawaii to any common Latin dish.
It is a small restaurant, but the decoration gives it a big and bright latin feel. With paintings of peppers, cows, and words like “caliente” all over the wall, you get a little taste of Mexico on the island. Another comforting aspect about the set up of the place is that you can watch the food be prepared in front of you, right on the other side of the counter. With speedy service, food that makes you wish your stomach was at least two times larger, Caliente del Sol is the perfect place to satisfy your craving for Mexican food.
